If you want to have your gas or electricity meter moved you will need to contact your utility company’s customer services section to find out how to go about this as the procedures and costs for such services vary widely.
Only your utility company is authorised to make such changes to these facilities and while they may employ external contractors to do the work, don’t ever think you can get someone in to do it for you instead  – this would be both illegal and dangerous and in addition you probably …

I have a prepaid meter, and my housemates are saying we’re paying far too much for electricity. I loaded £30 3 weeks ago and it’s down to £6. We have no big tv’s or anything like that, we turn things off at the wall, and we are always switching lights off unless we’re in the room. My house is usually dark.
Is it just expensive or is something afoot?
ps there are 5 of us living in the house

on the 1st of april i moved into my home, it was previously run by a christian care centre, which paid the gas and electricity, every quarter, and was also registered under british gas business. the care centre that ran the house said we will be getting in touch with BG and will cancel our contract so that you can choose your own supplier etc. not long after this we phoned to see if it had been done, they told us that BG have disputed the contract being ended early. …

We are shortly going to be installing solar heating for our water, the object being to insulate us from gas price rises in the future. For similar reasons, I would also like to reduce our electricity use, so delivering ‘free’ solar-heated water directly into the dishwasher and washing machine seems sensible.
The solar-panel guys have offered us a mixer unit for the washing machine (so we can do 30-40°C washes), but say another gubbins is needed for the dishwasher (not sure what, my wife spoke to them). Our dishwasher only has …

Hi I realise this is not the most fantastically interesting question for a Friday afternoon but….just got a letter saying my electric meter is being exchanged for a new ‘smart’ or OnStream one. Does this mean that the new meter will start at Zero?
By some magic power I have paid no electricity since June since I switched suppliers (I am hopefully lost in the big computers at British Gas) and if this new meter starts at zero and the old one is defunct I am really hoping that …

I have just moved into my new flat. It’s a relatively new build (9 years old) and everything seems to be in working order. But I have one major problem. No hot water or heating. There is a large boiler but to touch it is stone cold, the pipes are stone cold too. The switch for heating is switched on at the mains. The boiler itself makes no noise and I am sure there’s no water in it. I have cold water and if I turn the hot water tap …

My boyfriend and I put in an offer for a flat earlier today. It seems perfect but we’re trying to figure out all utility costs before we put any money down. The landlord said the energy is just electricity, no gas, and it’s on Economy 7 with EDF energy. We’re in Surbiton, just outside Kingston-Upon-Thames in Surrey if that makes a difference. Here’s the flat dimensions from the identical flat next door (add a www)

Mark Owen-Lloyd – one of the CEO’s of E.on made a well publicised disgusting remark today. Saying that the continued high gas and electricity prices would mean "more money for us". I find this disgusting, especially with how many people are in fuel poverty. I was so angry in fact that I immediately switched to a different energy supplier – I made sure that I told E.on why I was switching too!.
I reckon that if enough people do this, they might actually dismiss, or at least discipline him.
How do you …

The company I’m with offers line rental, up to 8meg broadband and free weekend calls with NO minimum contract. If you have your gas and electricity with them, too, it becomes free landline calls 24/7 – again with no minimum contract.
If you want to try them, give me a bell on 0800 298 2384 – or email me – and, once you’ve switched I’ll send you a crisp £20 note, by registered post, to you. No catch, no commitment. I use them, and so does my Dad, …

Have you switched to a capped or fixed price for your Electricity?
If you haven’t, do so right away as prices are likely to rise dramatically in the next few weeks.
EDF has already raised it’s prices. You have been advised!
Move on: Are you sure you mean deficient not efficient?

What are you going on about? I don’t see the relevance of Electricity & Gas in the same light. Gas here in UK is not petrol! How on earth ‘gas’ got into the American lingo, to be …

We live in a 4bed detached house that has a combi boiler and 24/7 hot water system. We are paying £140 a month for gas and electricity. We use the heating system as and when we need it ie in the morning then afternoon and another time at evening. We switch it on and off at the boiler in our storage cupboard and can adjust temperature with the dial in our kitchen. Is it costing us more by switiching it on and off then on …

My flatmates changed our electrics supplier to N-Power and we’ve just had our first bill for £690 covering 4 1/4. This is gas and electricity combined, but we live in a tiny 2 bedroom flat, with only half of our lights working and we had no heating during the winter!
DOes this seem high to you, and what are the next steps I should take to ensure to sorting this out ie – getting charge reduced?
Is it easy to switch elec supplier!
Thanks.

In my home the hot water is coming from a cylindre and can be heat either by electricity or gas (by the boiler used for central heating).
Actually I heat the water with electricity (this is because the water is hoter this way).
But as we are now using the central heating I think than I should heat the hot water using the gas at the same time, to save energy (and money). So yesterday I used the switch that is just with the switch for central heating, and then…. my central …
