I’m a tenant in a house with prepayment gas and electricity meters. Because of the cost involved, particularly in the gas meter, I would like to switch to direct debits. The meters were in place when we moved into the house and have no debts on them. However our landlord is not keen and the utilities are in his name, do I have the right to change this or can it only be done with the landlord’s permission?
